My supervision

Together we reflect on your coaching, the coach/client partnership, and the environment(s) in which you operate. This focus enables you to be the best possible coach for your clients which in turn maximises the results.

I am… empathic, pragmatic, down-to-earth, structured, action-oriented, and focused whilst taking a holistic approach. I am there to support you, as a coach, with your specific clients as well as your overall development.

I work over the phone and face-to-face.

How often?

It really depends on your current clients, developmental needs and experience. The recommendation for supervision for other helping professions is I hour for every 6 hours of client work. I see regularity as important and recommend one session per month.

A supervisor or a mentor?

Depending on who you speak to these words have different meanings. A supervisor is considered by some to be synonymous with a mentor. For credentialing requirements for the International Coach Federation (ICF), as at the time of writing, ‘mentor coaching’ consists of observed coaching and feedback on the presence or absence of the ICF core competencies in a coaching session.

To add to the confusion, mentor coaching can also mean mentoring on your business i.e. business development.

I’m less concerned about the title but more about the activity that’s done within a mentoring or supervision session. In terms of personal development, professionalism and ethics I believe great coaches need observed coaching and feedback and reflective practise.

As a coach starting off I recommend an emphasis on coaching skills development adding supervision (reflective practise) once you have regular clients. For experienced coaches the emphasis will be reflective practise with occasional coaching skills observation. We can all learn something new or get into bad habits!
